This film details the reconnaissance mission over the Solomon Islands on June 16, 1943 piloted by Medal of Honor recipient Captain Jay Zeamer, Jr. The footage reveals how Zeamer's plane was caught by surprise by 20 Japanese fighter planes in the air, and despite being seriously injured, remained in control of his plane over the course of a 40-minute firefight, directing his B-17 to an emergeny landing 580 miles away.

Jay Zeamer Jr. (July 25, 1918 – March 22, 2007) was a pilot of the United States Army Air Forces in the South Pacific during World War II, and received the Medal of Honor for valor during an air mission on June 16, 1943.
